The first season of Skull Fragments is in the can, as they say, all episodes currently available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Libsyn, etc. It was pure joy for me doing these six intimate, in-depth, in-studio interviews. Entertaining, educational, fascinating. The episodes present diverse points of view on the subject of criminal justice, a priority of ours that we hope to reassert in future seasons of the #skullfragmentspodcast.
However, there is an apology I need to make up front, and that is the lack of a female guest for the first season. I would call it an oversight, except that throughout the course of the first season I was well aware of needing to have a woman’s perspective on the show. You cannot do a podcast on the subject of criminal justice and not have guests that reflect how women are uniquely affected by this subject. We had a couple interviews with women guests that we hoped to do, but they fell through for one reason or another, usually scheduling conflicts. Then we came upon the Covid-19 crisis and needed to quickly get our final interview in the can, which required booking a studio and the best guest we could find on short notice.
None of this is an excuse. It is a regrettable shortcoming of the first season that we do not have a woman interview subject. I promise this is something we will rectify in future seasons. It is my goal that the interview subjects on Skull Fragments reflect the very diversity that is to be found in the U.S. criminal justice system, which means black, white, brown, male and female, transgender, etc.
That said, I’m proud of the guests we were able to present. I think you will find these conversations to be consistently surprising and edifying. It is my belief that there are few things more engrossing than a stimulating, no bullshit conversation between two people on an important subject. To me, there is no more important subject than criminal justice in America, and I hope these discussions reflect a serious and even essential attempt to shed light into the dark corners.
The beauty of podcasts is that past episodes are never dormant. They are there in the archive to be listened to whenever you have the time or inclination to do so. I hope you will take the opportunity to catch up on Season 1. We will keep you posted on further developments as we prepare to launch Season 2 later in the year.
Thanks for your support. Please help spread the word about Skull Fragments. It is a grass roots production, with no corporate sponsors or frivolous advertisers. The success of the podcast will depend on word-of-mouth and the ability to create critical mass on social media. In that sense, your involvement and contributions as a listener (including ratings and reviews on itunes and elsewhere) are worth their weight in gold and will help us to continue producing further seasons of Skull Fragments.
Sincerely, T.J. English
